Makan Kitchen is a unique dining experience that offers no less than six of Malaysia’s most popular and distinctive cuisines.

Besides the more well-known Malay, Chinese and Indian, we also specialise in lesser-known exotic cuisines of Kristang, Nyonya, and Iban.

A rich variety of flavours is presented in three interactive kitchens and the dining experience is further enhanced with our distinct dining areas, including our unique long house seating as well as several private dining rooms.

Makan Gallery - Chinese . Nyonya

Nyonya, also referred to as Peranakan, is the food of Chinese travelers who settled in Penang, Malacca, and Singapore starting in the Ming dynasty. They married local, Straits Malays and this union produced their unique food which blends Chinese ingredients in a wok with local spices used by the Malay's. Try our Hu Peow T’ng soup or Penang Char Kway Teow rice noodles.  For more Chinese influenced dishes, try our Roasted Duck prepared in a specialty duck oven.

Makan Gallery - Malay . Kristang

Malay cuisine reflects the multicultural heritage of our country; these dishes combine multiple ethnic influences in a single plate, resulting in a unique and delicious combinations and tastes. The Kristang cuisine is traced to the Portugese, the initial settlers from Europe. Although their dominion lasted only 50 years, they left an undeniable imprint on our cuisine. Try our Satay Anika for the true Malay cuisine or Devil Chicken Curry for an authentic Kristang recipe.

Makan Gallery - Indian . Ibanese

Malaysian Indian cuisine takes its roots from South India. It is essentially the same with dishes revolving around a “rempah”, a derivative of Indian Masala. Lots of spices, coconut milk, and herbs, particularly curry leaves are being used. The Iban tribe is from Sarawak, Borneo. Their traditional foods are called “pansuh”, which simply means the “cooking using bamboo stem”. The bamboo stem imparts a unique aroma and texture to the food. The specialty is Pansur Manuk.
