OUR CUISINE

CHINESE | NYONYA

CHINESE | NYONYA

Nyonya, also referred to as Peranakan, is the food of Chinese travellers who settled in Penang, Malacca, and Singapore starting in the Ming dynasty. They married local Straits Malays and this union produced their unique food which blends Chinese ingredients in a wok with local spices used by the Malay. Try our Hu Peow T'ng soup or Penang Char Kway Teow rice noodles. For more Chinese influenced dishes, try our Roasted Duck prepared in a speciality duck oven.

MALAY | KRISTANG

MALAY | KRISTANG

Malay cuisine reflects the multicultural heritage of our country; these dishes combine multiple ethnic influences in a single plate, resulting in unique and delicious combinations and tastes. The Kristang cuisine is traced to the Portuguese, the initial settlers from Europe. Although their dominion lasted only 50 years, they left an undeniable imprint on our cuisine. Try our Satay Anika for the true Malay cuisine or Devil Chicken Curry for an authentic Kristang recipe.

INDIAN | IBANESE

INDIAN | IBANESE

Malaysian Indian food is a mix of Northern and Southern Indian cuisine. Spices are the heart and soul of Indian cooking, where freshly grounded spices are added in different combinations, giving each dish a distinct taste. The Iban tribe is from Sarawak. One of the popular cooking styles is called "Pansuh ", which simply means "cooking using bamboo stem". The bamboo stem imparts a unique aroma to the food.
